DON KING DAYS…A TRIBUTE TO A GREAT COWBOY.
Don King Days has been a Labor Day weekend staple on the Sheridan, Wyoming, calendar since 1989. That’s when a local group of ranchers and ropers decided to organize an event to celebrate the equestrian traditions and heritage of the Sheridan area.
When it came time to choose a name for the event, the organizers agreed that one man embodied what they wanted to celebrate. That man was Don King.
Don King was a cowboy, horse trainer, roper, world renowned saddle, rope and tool maker, artist, craftsman, entrepreneur, husband, father, grandfather, gentleman and friend. For all these things, he was revered, respected and admired.
Not only did Don King lend his name to the celebration, he graced it with his humble presence for eighteen years and embraced every minute of it.
On this twenty-fourth anniversary of Don King Days, the spirit of the occasion is alive and well and will endure. And so will the wonderful memory of our friend, Don King.
